"How do I store roof warranty information in OnRequest
so it is easily accessible from within OnRequest?"

-or-

"How do I link to photos, documents or scans, etc. from within OnRequest™?"

Answer:

1. Create a folder in your Master Project folder and name it "Photos and Documents". Remember, your Master Project folder may reside on a server on your intranet or on your local hard drive.

2. Scan the warranty document and save the scanned file in the folder you just created. Alternatively, if you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat™, you may also print the document using the Adobe Acrobat™ Distiller™ to create a PDF file. The important point here is to create a file that will open in an application other than OnRequest™, and store the file in the folder we just created. If you have not already done so, open this "Photos and Documents" folder using the Microsoft Windows Explorer or simply navigate to the folder and open it. (We are assuming here that you have your folder options set to display the address window.) Copy the URL or file path from the address bar by highlighting the full address then using CTRL + C or Edit/Copy to place the address on the computer's "clipboard".

3. Next, open your project with OnRequest™. Open the drawing containing the Roof sections you will be working with. Select an icon you would like to associate with the roof warranties and copy it into the drawing containing the roof plan. We strongly recommend the Camera icon found in the "#Z-08 Regulations, Codes and Topics" drawing in your Master Project, The "Photo Links" are on palette #43 (see below).

Remember to move the layer containing the icon above the "Roof Layer" using the Modify Layer Set dialogue window.

4. Click on the link tool on the OnRequest™ tool palette. Under the link pull down menu, select the "Define/Modify LinkTo button" option.

5. Select the icon we just placed on the roof section above and the LinkTo dialogue window will open.

a. In the LinkTo pull down window, select the URL option. After this option has been selected, paste the URL or file location path into the widow just below the text "Enter a valid URL or select one from the list below".

b. Now, we need to add the document name to the end of the path name we just pasted in to modify it to contain the name of the file in the "Photos and Documents" folder. If, for example, the file name is "warranty.pdf", place the cursor at the end of the URL or path name and type in a backslash followed by the filename "warranty.pdf".

c. Close the define link dialogue window and select the select tool. Select the link tool and the camera icon will highlight. Select the Camera icon and the warranty document should open in the application used to create the file.*

* Note: If the link fails to open the warranty image or file, the most common problem is the target file or image itself. Navigate to the target file or image in the "Photos and Documents" folder and right click on the target file. Select the properties of the file or image. Ensure the "Opens with:" section has a defined application to open the file. If not, select the change button and select the application you wish to use to open the file.
