1992, APT, Inc. changed the CAFM software
industry with OnRequest™,
introducing the concept of data tightly
integrated with CAD drawing objects.
Facility managers, for the first time, could
control and manage buildings and grounds
issues looking through the familiar window
of floor, roof and site plans. Relational
data was available with the click of a mouse
and information could be easily queried
for sophisticated analysis; reports could
be easily created.
Enter
the World Wide Web and the idea that information
should be available from any location and
the idea that the process of daily tasks,
such as work orders, should be distributed
to the user level to eliminate clerical intermediaries
and achieve efficiency. Up until the
present time, this has meant working with
a complex set of applications. One application
to view and change base drawings, an overlay
software to link in data and associate it
with their drawing elements, a work order
software for on demand and scheduled maintenance,
and a document viewer to view and markup blueprint
or CAD drawing files for bid specs and communication
with vendors. Sounds complicated and expensive
