The Association was formed in Bergen County
in 1952 and has extended throughout the State

The American Institute of Plant Engineers
Twin Cities Chapter was organized on April
19, 1954, with 18 members. This group became
affiliated with the American Institute of
Plant Engineers on December 22, 1954. The
name was changes to Association for Facilities
Engineering in 1996.
FEMA - The Federal Emergency Management Agency
- an independent agency reporting to the President
and tasked with responding to, planning for,
recovering from and mitigating against disaster
- can trace its beginnings to the Congressional
Act of 1803. This act, generally considered
the first piece of disaster legislation, provided
assistance to a New Hampshire town following
an extensive fire. In the century that followed,
ad hoc legislation was passed more than 100
times in response to hurricanes, earthquakes,
floods and other natural disasters.

American Emergency Response Guidebook - The Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG2000)
was developed jointly by the US Department
of Transportation, Transport Canada, and the
Secretariat of Communications and Transportation
of Mexico (SCT) for use by firefighters, police,
and other emergency services personnel who
may be the first to arrive at the scene of
a transportation incident involving a hazardous
material. It is primarily a guide to aid first
responders in (1) quickly identifying the
specific or generic classification of the
material(s) involved in the incident, and
(2) protecting themselves and the general
public during this initial response phase
of the incident. The ERG is updated every
three to four years to accommodate new products
and technology. The next version is scheduled
for 2004.
